OPTIONS NORTHWEST is accepting applications for the position of Community Participation Worker from qualified individuals who are passionate about providing person centered support to individuals with disabilities, to live life their way.
Under the direction of the person being supported and/or their personal support circle, with accountability to an agency Supervisor, the Community Participation Worker is responsible to provide support in a respectful, non-judgmental manner to develop a person-directed plan and/or to achieve outcomes which are outlined in a person-directed plan or to provide caregiver respite. Provision of services shall include assisting the individual with all aspects of support related to the achievement of their goals/desired outcomes and/or the provision of respite services, based on individual need. Provision of all services and support will promote independence and community participation to the greatest extent possible.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A post-secondary education in the Human Services field and/or an appropriate combination of education/experience/training is considered an asset
- Knowledge of developmental disabilities and a broad knowledge of and ability to access community resources that help to promote and develop independence, social and life skills
- Previous experience supporting persons with developmental disabilities with activities of daily living and to achieve individual personal outcomes is considered an asset
- Experience supporting individuals with an additional mental health diagnosis is considered a strong asset
- Effective interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills along with demonstrated problem solving and analytical ability will be necessary to meet job expectations
- Ability to respond effectively in crisis/emergency situations
- A strong belief in the individual having a fundamental right to make decisions
- Current certificate in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention & First Aid, including CPR training
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing education/learning in the field of developmental disabilities
- Ability to work flexible hours
- A current police records check (vulnerable sector) is a requirement, only upon a conditional offer of employment
